Terms and conditions

  1. THE PROMOTER
    1. The promoters are Founders Forum LLP, Northcliffe House, Young Street, London W8 5EH.and British Airways Plc of Waterside, PO Box 365, Harmondsworth, UB7 0GB.
  2. THE COMPETITION
    1. The title of the competition is Pitch on a Plane
    2. The competition is aimed at founders and co-founders of businesses who must demonstrate that their business has the potential to transform the air travel experience for customers through innovative technological solutions.
    3. Co-founders of a business may enter the competition jointly on behalf of their business.
    4. In these terms and conditions “you” or “your” means the founder or co-founders who are entering the competition on behalf of their business.
    5. The competition will launch on 11th January 2019.
    6. Entries must be submitted by 11.59pm GMT 8 March 2019 (Closing Date)
    7. All entries must include the name of your business, your name(s), email address(es), address(es) (including postcode), telephone number(s) and age(s).
    8. To enter, you must (i) upload a short video of no more than 2 minutes in length (Original Video Submission) and (ii) submit a teaser deck of no more than 10 pages/slides both of which should summarise your business and provide a compelling story as to why your business should win.
    9. All submissions must be made directly via the website: thefutureofflying.co.uk
  3. SELECTION OF THE WINNER
    1. The winning business will be selected following the Closing Date in accordance with the terms below (Winner).
    2. The judging time-line will be as follows:
      1. 10 quarter finalists will be announced online at thefutureofflying.co.uk on 15th March 2019 (Quarter Finalists);
      2. Each of the Quarter Finalists will be invited to British Airways’ head office to pitch in person to a panel of judges and experts on 10th April 2019;
      3. If you are selected as a Quarter Finalist, you must provide a long form deck of no more than 20 slides/pages and two references to provide feedback to the selection committee on team, traction and technology by 29 March 2019. Referees may be contacted. Quarter Finalists will be provided with details of how to submit these requirements on or after 15th March 2019
      4. 5 semi-finalists will be announced following the conclusion of all pitches at the event on 10th April 2019 (Semi Finalists);
      5. If you are selected as Semi Finalist, you may submit an updated 2 minute video about your business by 1st May 2019. If you do not submit an updated video your Original Video Submission will be used for the semi-final.
      6. The Semi Finalists’ videos will be reviewed by the judges on-board a BA flight on 12 June 2019 (BA Flight);
      7. All Semi Finalists will be required to attend a location in London, UK to participate in a remote, live question and answer session with the judges present on the BA Flight between 12am and 11pm GMT on 13 June 2019. Further details will be communicated to all Semi Finalists prior to the occasion;
      8. 3 finalists will be announced on-board the BA Flight before its arrival at Heathrow airport (Finalists);
      9. All Finalists must attend the Founders Forum London 2019 on 13 June 2019 to pitch in person to a panel of judges;
      10. The Winner will be chosen and announced at the Founders Forum London 2019 on 13 June 2019.
    3. At each stage, the final decision will be made by a number of independent judges selected by the Promoters.
    4. The decision of the judges nominated by the Promoters at each stage is final and no correspondence or discussion will be entered into.
    5. You will be responsible for ensuring that, at minimum, the founder or one co-founder of the relevant business is free and able to attend each stage of the judging of the competition. Failure to attend any stage of the judging will result in your competition entry being removed from consideration.
    6. British Airways will provide flights to Quarter Finalists, Semi Finalists and Finalists from an airport in their country of residence to London, UK to enable them to attend the relevant judging stage provided that a BA operated flight is available on the relevant route on the relevant dates (a maximum of 2 persons per entry will be provided with a flight, one of whom must be a founder or co-founder of the relevant company). All travel on British Airways flights is subject to British Airways’ General Conditions of Carriage for Passengers and Baggage which can be found at https://www.britishairways.com/en-gb/information/legal/british-airways/general-conditions-of-carriage and the notice and conditions of contract on each ticket and itinerary. For the avoidance of doubt, British Airways shall have no liability in relation to travel costs associated with travelling to or from the airports or any other incidental expenses.
  4. ELIGIBILITY
    1. The competition is open to residents of the United Kingdom and Europe who are founders and co-founders of businesses which demonstrate potential to transform the air travel experience through innovative technology solutions. The business must:
      1. be based, or have its chief operations, in Europe and
      2. have been incorporated for one year as of 1 January 2018; and
      3. have a product or prototype that can be demoed at the time of submission; and
      4. Not have raised more than 1 million pounds sterling in equity financing.
    2. In entering the competition, you confirm that you are eligible to do so and eligible to claim any prizes you or your business may win. The Promoter may require you to provide proof that you are eligible to enter the competition.
    3. The Promoter will not accept entries that are plagiarised.
    4. The Promoter reserves all rights to disqualify you if your conduct is contrary to the spirit or intention of the competition.
  5. THE PRIZE
    1. All Finalists will be given the opportunity to attend the Founders Forum London 2019 and participate in the associated publicity.
    2. The Winner will receive:
      1. 100,000 On Business points;
      2. 100,000 Avios points;
      3. A one page advert in Business Life and a one page advertorial in Business Life featuring the winning business.
      4. Reasonable assistance to facilitate follow up connections following the Founders Forum London 2019;
      5. Publicity for the winning business on Founders Forum channels.
      6. A one hour meeting with Brent Hoberman
    3. On Business Terms and Conditions apply to use of the On Business points which can be found at https://onbusiness.britishairways.com/web/ba/terms-and-conditions. You must register for a British Airways On Business account in order to received the On Business points.
    4. You must have or register for a British Airways Executive Club account in order to receive the Avios points. You must provide British Airways with their correct Executive Club number. British Airways will not be liable for Avios being credited to the wrong account and British Airways will not be responsible to re-credit these Avios to the correct account if incorrect Executive Club numbers are supplied. Where co-founders have entered on behalf of the Winner only one of you will be required to register for and provide your Executive Club details.
    5. For the avoidance of doubt the prizes stated above will not vary, increase or be awarded in multiples where co-founders entered on behalf of the Winner.
    6. You will be responsible for ensuring that you are available to attend the Quarter Final, Semi-Final, Final on the relevant dates.
    7. You will be responsible for ensuring you have the relevant visas and documents to attend the Quarter Final, Semi-Final and Final in the UK.
    8. The Promoter reserves the right to replace the prize with an alternative prize of equal or higher value if circumstances beyond the Promoter’s control makes it necessary to do so.
    9. The prize is not negotiable or transferable.
  6. CLAIMING THE PRIZE
    1. The Promoters will contact the Winner on the contact details provided by the Winner to discuss the provision of the prizes within one month after announcement of the Winner.
    2. The prize may not be claimed by a third party on your behalf.
    3. The Promoter does not accept any responsibility if you are not able to take up the prize.
  7. LIMITATION OF LIABILITY Insofar as is permitted by law, the Promoters, its agents or distributors will not in any circumstances be responsible or liable to compensate the Winner or accept any liability for any loss, damage, personal injury or death occurring as a result of entering the competition or taking up the prize except where it is caused by the negligence of the Promoter, its agents or distributors or that of their employees. Your statutory rights are not affected.
  8. OWNERSHIP OF COMPETITION ENTRIES AND INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS
    1. Entrants are responsible for ensuring that their entries do not breach the intellectual property rights of any third parties.
    2. The Promoter does not claim any rights of ownership in your competition entry.
    3. You agree that the Promoters may, but are not required to, promote details of the Winner and their entry on its websites, and in any other media, whether now known or invented in the future.
    4. You acknowledge that you may be required to take part in a variety of publicity, marketing and advertising with the Promoters relating to the competition if you are selected as a Semi-Finalist or Finalist. The Winner may be required to participate in additional publicity, marketing and advertising matters following the announcement that they are the Winner.
  9. GENERAL
    1. The name and county of the winner will be published at thefutureofflying.co.uk for at least a month after the closing date.
    2. Personal data will be taken where necessary from all entries received but shall be limited to those details reasonably necessary for the administration of the competition. This information may be shared with any other third parties reasonably involved in the competition without liability to the Promoters or such third parties.
    3. If there is any reason to believe that there has been a breach of these terms and conditions, the Promoter may, at its sole discretion, reserve the right to exclude you from participating in the competition.

    5. The Promoter reserves the right to hold void, suspend, cancel, or amend these terms and conditions where it becomes necessary to do so.
    6. These terms and conditions shall be governed by English law, and the parties submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
